The three members of Palberta are endlessly creative, each of them with a slew of their own projects to scratch any inspirational itch that comes their way from noise punk to glistening pop music. They take an artistic approach to all they do and the past few years have found Lily Konigsberg’s music becoming increasingly hard to predict, but always interesting. Whether playing solo or as part of Lily and Horn Horse and Eyes of Love, there’s always a radiant nuance to her music, built entirely without borders but always with song structures that reside brilliantly within the confines of “traditional pop”. Set to release her latest EP, It’s Just Like All The Clouds, on March 13th via Wharf Cat Records (Bambara, Public Practice, P.E.), the effort is a beautiful exercise in experimental bedroom pop.

The record’s title track, “It’s Just Like All The Clouds,” a subdued dance song, one that’s as somber as it is alive. The pulsating beat offers a club pulse, but Konigsberg balances it with heartbroken lyrics and melodies that juxtapose the brightness. With drums provided by Nina Ryser (Palberta), a video directed by Ani Ivory-Block (Palberta), and bass from Paco Cathcart (The Cradle), the single remains a family affair, though with an air of personal reflection. There’s a surreal beauty to Konigsberg’s constructions, working electronic glitches and psych into manipulated pop form, one that’s easy to embrace and hard to forget. Konigsberg and her band are currently on tour with Of Montreal, all dates can be found below.
