Brooklyn, NY’s The Human Fly is shifting from a sparse release schedule to the exact opposite with their plan to release a quadruple EP set over the course of 2020. After releasing their debut full-length in 2012 and an EP in 2013, the group, driven by songwriter Robert Mathis, waited until 2017 to release their second LP Gruesome, a record filled with melancholic acoustic-guitar driven pop-songs complemented by earnest lyrics and a slew of accompaniments ranging from upright bass and cello to French horn and piano.
Indy500 part 1, the first (obviously) of the four releases planned for 2020, is preceded by single “Trackstar,” a driving track filled with subtle electronics that accentuate The Human Fly’s already eclectic sound. Mathis’ pop vocal chops are in full swing here, but there are also plenty of instrumental sections that allow the song’s arrangements and textures to breathe and emphasize the atmosphere. Check out the band on their East Coast tour, kicking off this Friday, and hear the whole of Indy500 part 1 when it drops digitally on February 21st.
