For the past seven months or so we’ve been getting a slow drip of new singles from Brooklyn’s Groupie. The band play a great mix of post-punk, shoegaze, and power-pop, with the elements blending seamlessly. It’s catchy, noisy, and jagged, their songs are always evolving as they go. With two years having passed since their debut EP, the band are set to release their first full length, Ephemeral, on January 22nd. Having shared the singles “Half Wave” and the stunning Polish written “Daleko,” the band have already offered a dynamic glimpse into the album, which is available for pre-order tomorrow on Bandcamp.

“Thick As Glue,” the latest single from the release, shows yet another side of Groupie’s promising debut, the fuzziest and most swooning of their silky pop-gaze sound. It’s a song about questioning your childhood idols, the “rock stars” you grew up with that just don’t seem so “hot” anymore, and wondering what exactly was there in first place. They do it with a big hook and an easy melody that could stick right into radio… back when that was a thing that happened. There’s some tension and a nicely bent guitar riff that certainly brings us into the past, primed to ask “who do you think you’re looking up to?'“

In addition to the digital release, Ephemeral will be released on vinyl via Handstand Records and cassette via Tapehead City.
