“Stressed,” the second single from Rochester, NY’s Comfy is a swirling, rambunctious meditation on, well, loitering around the house being stressed out by the minutiae of modernity. Switching between blissed out power pop and slightly heavier intonations, Connor Benincasa takes us through the whirlwind inside his mind: “talking to yourself about the voices talking to you from the cold black telephone/knowing that you’re alone” and “cleaning up my room to make room in my head for all the good ideas” are two of the most remarkable of these espousals, both doing an excellent job conveying a instantly recognizable form of nervous domesticity.

As if to stand in for pacing from one room to another, the sonic palate of the song flits back and forth from high-strung moments to ones deeper in a groove (bongos appear in a memorable moment), before a hard-charging final minute wraps up the package. In the closing moments Benincasa sings “sorry for writing so many songs about myself” and well, I don’t think he should necessarily feel that way. This one is good!

Volume For comes out on Dadstache Records January 15th, 2021.
