Brooklyn’s Poise released their self-titled EP at the tale end of 2019, a great introduction to Lucie Murphy and the band’s smoky indie rock and rustier noisy folk inclinations. The quintet (Murphy, Sam Skinner, Mike Dvorscak, Stella Kortchmar, and Theo Munger) have recorded their full length debut but before that is unleashed into the world the band have been sharing the intimate Woods Sessions, recorded live together in a Vermont cabin this past August by Tonje Thilesen. They’ve already shared “Walked Through Fire” and “Vestiges,” two songs that add a delicate feel that wasn’t so much on their EP, trading the heavier distortion for slowly unfolding songs of intricate pop.

“Show Me Your Love” is the third video in the series, another new song that builds on Murphy’s strength as a songwriter and a vocalist. With an immediate opening that pulls you into the heart of the song, Murphy sings, “did everything I could for you, man, what’re you going to do for me / because you can’t just say you love.” It’s a feeling of failed reciprocation, when effort is really only being placed on one side. The dreamy song winds into heavier textures about half way through, as Murphy’s voice moves from lulling beauty to a more abrasive croon, floating between the two with a commanding performance that continues to build until the finale, ending as abruptly as they began.
