Over the past decade The Hussy have built themselves a massive catalog, with 25 releases spread across labels like Southpaw, Slovenly, Volar, and countless others. They’ve spread their trash punk and garage around the country with once relentless touring but the past few years have been quieter for the band (though they’ve been busy with other projects). Set to release Looming, their first new full length in four years on September 27th via their new home at Dirtnap Records (Marked Men, Proud Parents, Dusk), the duo have expanded into a trio, but their psych pop induced garage fuzz remains quintessentially their own. It’s fun. It’s dirty. It rattles the brain with a sugary glory.
Following the release of lead single “Coast” comes the ragged yet restrained “Sorry,” a song with big anthemic melodies that feel like classic 80’s street punk. There’s much to shout along with from the infectious hook to the carefree “woos,” backed all the way with a flickering flute warble (or maybe it’s a synth) that adds texture to their determined chug. The energy, as with everything The Hussy do, is radiant and immediate. It’s all jangle without the bullshit.
