Philadelphia’s Bruise Bath is the “solo” project of Zak Krone (formerly of Left & Right) and they like to play things slow and heavy. Their music carries an immense weight, providing you that heart-sinking feeling of all your burdens teaming together to finally crush you. While that reality is too much to bare, the mentality of it works well for Krone’s songs. Following 2017’s self-titled album, the band, which at the time of recording featured Krone and bandmates new and old (Kevin Paschall, Daniel Merchant, Andrew Abbott, Gab Landrum, Brian Williams) are set to release The Leash, The Lash, The Veil, a new EP due out January 3rd.
“The Veil” is the record’s first single, a molasses slow song is equal parts gloomy and in search of something better, something to dig out of the rut. While the majority of Bruise Bath’s songs deal with the notion of the world coming to an end, The Leash, The Lash, The Veil aims to find a comfort in it, and they do so on “The Veil” with sustaining chords and a stunning harmony, courtesy of Krone and Landrum (of the band Lenny and Carl). Their voices compliment each other with gorgeous clarity, that feeling of longing doubled to create a shared experience. The song crawls along in the airy void of slowcore depths, but the tension comes to a release as the song eventually erupts.
The band will celebrate the release on January 3rd at Philadelphia’s Everybody Hits with Lenny and Carl and Sun Organ.
