Way back in January we had the pleasure of premiering Mezzanine Swimmers' full length debut album, Black Cat In Heat. Released via Fire Talk Records, we called it futuristic, menacing and mysterious, with Mike Green's vocals providing the only sign of human life left in existence of the record's careening gray soundscapes and intricate rhythms. The album opens with "Cinnamon Gurl," an abrasive warp down the rabbit hole, but just the tip of the sonic assault that lies ahead.
As Mezzanine Swimmers head out on the road with Dean Cercone, we have the premiere of the "Cinnamon Gurl" music video, directed by Conrad Burnham of International Winners. The clip is made up of what appears to be retro stock footage and educational videos run through a kaleidoscope, shiftings and blurring reality in time with the music. The song's dark and synthetic beats create an ominous feeling as we view scientists and children fitted with nuclear fall-out suits wavering in creepy symmetrical patterns. It's a weird visual that feels all the more disturbing thanks to its harsh electronic soundtrack.
