There are a lot of issues to be worried about. For Seattle trio Wimps, their concerns seem to rest upon building a "Giant Brain". Set to release Garbage People, their third full-length, on July 13th via Kill Rock Stars, the band sound more focused than ever, regardless of what they might be focused on. Between stealing pizzas, discordantly dismissing chores, and questioning the decrease in the bee population, Wimps are here to say what we're all thinking, and they do it rather brilliantly. Their latest video "Giant Brain" is one part 80's corporate culture, one part slacker punk, and well... a whole lot of parts enjoyment. Get warped into the screen in director Marcy Stone-Francois' homage to Max Headroom.
There's special effects! There's twitchy jaw movements! There's enough 80's charm to have you dreaming in neon! It's Wimps at their most new wave, but the song still relies on the band's well coiled slacker fuzz meets locked-in post-punk. Wimps ooze charisma in all their punk intelligence, and "Giant Brian" is a perfect example of their sarcastic lyrics delivered in a non sarcastic way. It's that ability that has Wimps shimmering with deadpan lines, "I'm an office worker, information pusher, my days have purpose, and I'm building a giant brain". Just when it feels like the work week is melting your will to live, Wimps are here to save you.
