In addition to the much beloved LAMC series that has included everyone from Thee Oh Sees and Ty Segall to Lightning Bolt and A Place To Bury Strangers, Famous Class Records has been on a hot streak recently with singles and EPs from Deerhoof, Flatworms, and Nots. On November 9th that streak continues with Melbourne’s Civic who will release their latest EP, Those Who No (a co-release together with the great Australian punk label Anti-Fade Records). While their debut had more of a hardcore punk energy to it, their latest finds the quintet in a janglier mood, embracing the rawness of power-pop and big herculean hooks.
“Heat,” the band’s second single was made for inebriated sing-alongs and barn burning late night ragers. It’s stomping and grooving from the get go, full stream ahead into the red and syrupy thick melodies. It pounds and croons, a brash garage pop song that never looses sight of the chorus and it’s let’s-all-shout-together vibes.
