Nashville's young go-getters Datenight (US) work at a furious pace. Just when you think it's safe to come outside... they're back with a new batch of rippers. Their songs are short and scrappy, perfectly punchy and well written; jangle punk in it's purest form. Barely out of their high school years, the band have been steadily releasing great record after great record, but their "official" debut album, Comin Atcha' 100MPH, due out February 27th via Drop Medium Records, has the trio amped up to the next level, focusing their raw intensity into new shapes and creating their best work in the process. The songs still race by in a fuzzy blur, but the hooks are syrupy and sweet, sticking with you in time and ready for an onslaught of repeat listens. These boys done good.
"On The Block," the album's third single, comes to us today via an appropriately lo-fi video, a visual full of layered images and carefree bleeds. The haphazard nature of the clip is a welcome accompaniment to the song's own reckless groove, a hard nosed pop song rooted in good natured raw punk. Much like the earliest days of No Age and The Clean, Datenight (US) strike a balance between the scuzz and jangle, pulling just the right amount from each with their own wild abandon.
"On The Block" was shot by Jessie Manos, and directed/edited by Nick Baker (The Channels).
