Dove, NH's Greed Island are set to release Nest Egg, their sophomore EP in August on Salty Speakers (Rick Rude, Big Mess, Black Norse), a fuzzy ode to wasted time, hanging with friends, and the everlasting power of monstrous guitars. The album's radiant energy and wandering riffs scrap through melodic punk and agitated pop songwriting, ending with "Can," a song less inspired by the krautrock legends and more the whirring hum of bands like Built to Spill and Modest Mouse. It's a different vibe than much of the record, opening with a sprawling slow-core vibe before kicking things into Pacific Northwest-influenced downer drift, with thick guitars that blanket the vocals and the pummeling rhythms. There's a chemtrail of distorted bliss and as the song amps up to prime snotty punk abandon, the guitars quickly swallow everything whole, layered against each other with intertwining melodies sweeter than syrup. Guitars... go figure, still amazing.
Greed Island's Nest Egg is out August 11th via Salty Speakers. The band will celebrate the album's release show on August 12th at Sue's (RSVP) with Rick Rude, Ovlov, and Washer.
