Sun Young prefer things to be a bit strange. Their self-titled full length debut, released this past November on Super Wimpy Punch, adheres to that but don't get it confused, the Boston trio aren't weird just for the sake of it, their sound is focused and intelligent, no matter how hard they may try to make you think otherwise. Their music video for "Grey" on the other hand... well, that's another story altogether.
Directed by Sun Young's own John Cushing (bass/vocals) and Jeff Balter (drums/vocals), the video captures the two spending some quality time together... enjoying each other's company and using technology to hang out virtually with Damien Scalise (guitar/vocals) who may or may not just be a still image. There are some very *special* special effects... siren alarm lights that signal the manic deconstruction of the song's atonal refrains, sporadic rainbows, cartoon faces, and plenty of layered images that offer all the disorienting joy you want and need. It's all a bit dumb and off-kilter, and I have a sneaking suspicion thats just the way Sun Young like it. As they said, "just because I feel strange, it doesn't mean that I don't wanna feel you next to me". Cuddle up with Sun Young, the time to get weird has arrived.
