One of my favorite songs from 2013 was "Saturday" by the New York City by way of Kansas band Baby Birds Don’t Drink Milk (aka BBDDM). It’s a song built for night time. A song to play alone in the dark. I mention this because today we’re premiering "Love Me Denver," the second single from the upcoming wonderfully titled album Burritos by BBDDM. It’s a song that feels like a counterpoint to "Saturday". A song for the morning after that showcases what they do so well. Layers upon layers that create an ethereal feeling. The vocals buried so deep in the mix that the words tend to be lost, but the sound and feeling of them are not, each member harmonizing together to create their signature sound.
Between "Love Me Denver" and the first single "Don’t Wanna Fall in Love," Burritos sounds like it could be providing a state of the union for BBDDM. A showcase of everything they’ve done so well on previous albums while also laying out their musical agenda for the future. Or it could be none of that and be something else entirely. You never can tell what you’re getting into with a new BBDDM release, but one thing for sure is it will definitely be worth your time.
Burritos is out March 4th via Fire Talk Records and Lillerne Tapes.
