San Diego duo Blood Ponies are gearing up for the release of their doom-punk debut Hoax. It’s due out mid-November and the timing of the second single could not be more appropriate. Today we’re happy to premiere the chilling visual accompaniment to the equally unsettling “Submit/Surrender,” a ripping early-record cut filled with white-knuckle melodies that’ll make your jaw clench and teeth grind. It’s a crushing, uptempo number that lands somewhere between the grim post-punk fatalism of Protomartyr and the dystopian, brutalist tilt of Nick Cave. So yes, Happy Halloween.

Blood Ponies is Candice Renee (drums/percussion/synth/vocals) and Jeffrey Cesare (guitars/vocals/synth). Hoax was engineered and recorded by Ben Moore at Singing Serpent Studios and the video for “Submit/Surrender” was directed and edited by Evan McGinnis. If you’re into this one, be sure to check out the first single “Four Walls” too, it’s just as good. Spoilers ahead: there are some really solid tracks on this record, be sure to check it out when it drops in a few weeks on November 15.
