First thing is first, Wesley & The Boys have a lot of energy. Unbridled amounts of energy. Cocaine heaps of energy. Their energy translates into explosive live performances, as heard on their Euro Tour Tape ‘26, a new live album out today via the great Swimming Faith Records (Havana Syndrome, Ismatic Guru, Calice). Released to coincide with the band’s upcoming European tour (dates below), the tape is pure garage rock adrenaline filtered through the sweat stained world of basement punk. There’s a vicious sensibility to the music, but more often than not the Nashville based sound ready to soundtrack the sleaziest of parties. This set feels several sheets to the wind, but the band’s relentless energy remains in full force from the combustable start until the set’s finale. If exhaustion is setting in at any point, we sure as hell can’t tell.
With a spirited chaos that feels right for a crowded pub or a DIY house show, Wesley & The Boys come to boogie, blasting out a sordid swagger and enough psychedelic menace to soundtrack one strange acid trip. Songs like “Fight On The Internet” bring their tongue-in-cheek lyrics into an atmosphere of swinging fists and spilled beer. It’s good time fun for these less than good times, a rock ‘n’ roll band that can’t be bothered by the bullshit because they’re too busy having a damn good time. Shredding with blown out solos on “Full-Time Asshole” and embracing explosive blues punk on “Bus Ride Home,” Wesley & The Boys keep the engines working overtime, burning rubber and peeling around every turn.
