Lane - "Miranda" | Post-Trash Premiere

by Dan Goldin (@paintingwithdan)

While it’s been two years since Lane released their last full length, the Boston based band have been steadily rolling out new singles for nearly a year now. There’s a great range to be found within those songs, moving between fuzzy melodies and bent structures to jagged post-punk and mutated alternative rock. With a new album seemingly imminent, the duo of Wes Kaplan (guitar, vocals) and Julian Fader (drums) return with “Miranda,” a propulsive song that opens with a brash onslaught of drums, knotted chord progressions, and a general kaleidoscopic chaos to their noise pop sound.

Lane plant themselves amid a wonky groove, embracing the seasick structure together with guest vocal harmonies from Jolee Gordon (Houndsteeth, Youbet). As the melody warps and oozes into new shapes, Kaplan remains as cool as can be, weaving an unshakable vocal line through the caustic path, pulling back at times to let it all breathe before digging right back in.

Catch Lane live on November 6th supporting A Place To Bury Strangers and Adult. at The Sinclair.
