As we all head into the weekend, we’re happy to share a few of our favorite new releases, out this week (in splendid alphabetical order). The write-ups are all “tweet sized,” kept brief in the tradition of our old new release thread. There’s a lot of great music out every week and these are but some of the many we think you should check out.
Legless Records / Erste Theke Tontraeger

Prolific and frenzied, Billiam releases music at a furious pace, but Animation Cel feels like a monumental record, a statement of blistering synth punk intention. The young punk savant plays at high velocity, ripping and tearing through rattled and hooky "egg punk" songs that deal with both mental health and Sonic The Hedgehog in equal measure. It's brash cartoony chaos in the best of ways.
Self Released
Bandcamp
Five years after the release of Tube Reducer, Nova Scotia's Booji Boys have returned! We thought the band had called it a day (and moved on to projects like Excited To Die), so we're thrilled to hear Demo Promo 2024 !!??, three new tracks of blown out power-pop riddled punk songs. Raw but undeniably jangly, the demo is pure rock 'n' roll scuzz, perhaps the start of a second era for the band.
Feel It Records
Bandcamp | Spotify | Apple
Minneapolis' Citric Dummies don't take themselves too seriously, but hell, they sure do rip. The trio take a comedic approach to punk and hardcore, but make no mistake, their music is as pulverizing and it is intrinsically dumb. Trapped In A Parking Garage, the band's new EP, arrives in time for the band's European tour, a surly set of brute chaos and sordid humor.
Backwoodz Studioz
Spotify | Apple
ØKSE, an international jazz collective with roots in Denmark, release their self-titled album on Backwoodz Studioz, a label that has always put an emphasis on forward thinking music. Joined by some of the Backwoodz elite, the quartet of Savannah Harris, Mette Rasmussen, Val Jeanty, and Petter Eldh take an avant-garde approach to jazz, spiraling into the cosmos with an astounding sense of untethered freedom.
Castle Face
Bandcamp | Spotify | Apple
Osees need no introduction, but SORCS 80 is not your average Osees record, even for a band that's constantly redefining themselves. Their latest is an entirely rhythmic punk odyssey, 100% void of guitars, reliant solely on the percussion of drums and distorted samplers. While the melodies are indeed limited, the rhythms are pulsating with equal parts fury and boogie, all gas, no breaks.
