Estrella del Sol and Sebastian Neyra know how to divvy it up best. Hot off the heels of their breakthrough full length Aprender a Ser, the buzzing Mexico City duo Mint Field have hit us with a “pero espera, hay más.” Aprender a Ser Extended is a mini-LP composed of songs from the band’s initial Aprender sessions that were intentionally set aside to assist with listener digestion. The extended cut elaborates on the original’s melancholic blueprint as the duo get heavier and venture further into the void. Today, Post-Trash is thrilled to premiere the record’s excellent second single, “Una flor sin interior.”
The opaque elements that made Aprender so utterly consuming endure on its extended edition, as Estrella del Sol’s dissociative verses take amorphous shape around infinite and nothingness, feeling and lack thereof. “Una mirada hacia el espejo/En el que pretendo que no pasa nada,” she sings on “Una flor sin interior.” A guitar slides up and plucks at muted high strings before collapsing into de Sol’s own hollowed distortion. “Cómo el abrir de una flor sin interior,” she asks without giving too much away. It’s devastatingly relatable, familiar in its inexplicable unease. “Una flor sin interior” is another piece of Mint Field’s detached, psychedelic world, one that only becomes more situated as it remains removed.
Aprender a Ser Extended is out August 30 on Felte Records and features cello arrangements from Mabe Fratti on closer “El Mar Me Veia.” Fratti also made an appearance on Estrella de Sol’s solo album Figura de Cristal from 2023. Listen to “Una flor sin interior” below:
