As we all head into the weekend, we’re happy to share a few of our favorite new releases, out this week (in splendid alphabetical order). The write-ups are all “tweet sized,” kept brief in the tradition of our old new release thread. There’s a lot of great music out every week and these are but some of the many we think you should check out.

Your Own Good is the full length debut from Portland's Cut Piece, a record that splits the seams between post-punk and hardcore, infusing itself with a great deal of the band's own character, both caustic and utterly catchy (thanks in part to Laura's fiery vocals). Eleven ragged songs that howl against oppressive behaviors and society's deterioration.

Finom are one of those bands with the ability to astound. Not God, the art rock duo's (fka Ohmme) fourth full length is indeed astonishing, twisting and grooving itself in unexpected directions that pull us ever deeper into their web of mangled pop hooks and razor sharp chemistry. Exuberant yet oddly refined.
Beach Impediment Records
Bandcamp
Invertebrates, the Richmond based hardcore band (who share members with Public Acid) follow up a great demo with Sick To Survive, a proper full length built on taut stampeding drums and buzzing riffs that swerve between decimation and a raw hardcore boogie. This is pummeling punk designed for the underground with reckless tempos and manic vocals.
Sub Pop Records

La Luz return with News of the Universe, a gorgeous album that wanders in new directions for the band while retaining their ever stunning swooning psych pop bliss. Equal parts gentle, beautiful, and disorienting, it's the sound of dreams and the natural world evolving into one, as mesmerizing as it is vivid.
Dark Descent / Me Saco Un Ojo Records
Bandcamp | Spotify | Apple
Sometimes an album's title really says it all, which is to say that Mortal Wound's brand of death metal on The Anus Of The World ain't exactly "high brow". It is a pretty good time though if you're into primal thudding rhythms, distasteful riffs, grinding carnage, and a bevy of deranged samples.
Father/Daughter Records
Bandcamp | Spotify | Apple
mui zyu's full length debut has was a great introduction to Eva Liu's gorgeous world of bent dream pop and experimental indie rock but nothing or something to die for feels like a defining moment, a stunning record of subtle cosmic complexities and swirling nuances that heighten the emotional weight of Lui's songwriting.
Convulse Records
Bandcamp | Spotify | Apple
Less than a year after their last full length, San Francisco's Pardoner return with Paranoid In Hell, a new EP that explores the way art is received in modern times. It's a great mix of slacker punk with big jangly hooks, fuzzy SST style hardcore, psychedelic detachment, and the band's warped sense of humor.
Self Released

With a rare live appearance coming next week (5/29), Brooklyn's SLEEPIES share a great new b-sides and rarities compilation, Misc. The amorphous post-punk band has been a favorite around here for over a decade, and it's easy to see why on this collection’s caustic and driving songs, clamoring with off kilter hooks and combustible grooves.
