When Cleveland’s Disintegration announced their presence on the scene, it felt too good to be true. Members of Profligate, Pleasure Leftists, Cloud Nothings and more came together with their combined punk and new wave arsenals to create an EP, Time Moves For Me. The EP’s intensely cool electro-punk is immediately charming and addictive, inspiring dance and movement with a grace and seriousness that is unmatched in the scene today. Haley Himiko’s voice is just as prominent as on Pleasure Leftist hits, if not more, and she rises to the occasion every time. As exciting as Disintegration’s production is, Himiko’s voice is what really seals the deal.
Now, Disintegration are teaming back up with Feel It Records for a full-length album that promises more electronic post-punk with a distinctly Cleveland twist. Their processed, pummeling instrumentals lay a spellbinding foundation on new single “In Your Diary,” which enters quietly before coming for you all at once. Himiko’s voice, especially as she chants “get closer,” cuts through the noise to deliver an urgent message, making the track feel reminiscent of a spy flick. It’s futuristic, grounded, and downright fun.
