DANA are a live band as in, you need to go see them live. The Columbus, OH based quartet leave no room for disappointment in the performances, with high energy punk that’s savage, brainy, and delightfully weird. Thankfully, they seem to enjoy being out on the road, and we’re all the luckier for it. With all that time spent mesmerizing audiences though, it’s been over four years since the band released a new album. While we don’t have any news on that front (but we eagerly await it), DANA are sharing “Time Suck(s),” a brand new single ahead of their upcoming dates.
Rooted in their signature brand of avant-garage punk freakiness and theremin soaked distortion, DANA’s latest comes wavering into being with a mutated and warped sort of focus. Grinding between low end dirge, phaser like guitars, and the whir of the theremin, DANA quickly establish a density that breaks in and out of sludge and elastic punk, pulled between attack and groove. As the track becomes increasingly claustrophobic. DANA glide into the silky refrain, as the clouds part and we’re all chewed up by time. The structure remains unpredictable as it expands and contracts, roaring into wall of sound noise rock territory one moment only to snap back into the hypnotic post-punk rhythm the next. It’s a work of art, and a great way to spend your time.
The band kick off a Midwest / Canadian tour this weekend. Check out the dates below and keep an eye out for more dates that will take DANA down to Texas in time for this year’s SXSW.
