Rising New Haven-based quartet The Tines deliver an exquisitely-arranged piece of urgent indie pop on lead single "Collarbone," from their upcoming self titled debut album. Led by the boundlessly melodic songwriting of S.G. Carlson, the track glides through peaks and valleys under the power of Ilya Gitelman's soaring Western-inspired guitar leads, while the insistent rhythms of bassist Sean Koravo and drummer J Thompson provide the necessary backbone for the band's deeply layered explorations. Complete with an ear worm synth melody that brightens an already-memorable chorus.
Recorded at Carlson's own New Haven studio Sans Serif Recording, his background as both a solo artist and a recording engineer prove to be instrumental to the band's success, as the track's multitude of layers slowly unfold in cinematic levels of detail with each listen. The song's video, filmed and edited by Connor Rog and Matt Valade, perfectly matches the curious and exploratory nature of the band's songwriting, as four friends explore a creepy abandoned warehouse, each having their own separately terrifying experience as they inevitably split up and eventually leave the cavernous building when things start to get too surreal for their liking.
