Earlier this year Philadelphia’s Tadzio followed up their latest full length, That Cold Grey Light, with Sierra, a split album released together with Nyxy Nyx. Now, just in time for Bandcamp Friday aka September 3rd, the experimental chamber-pop band are back with a new 2-song single, Ice Cream in Hell b/w Heat Turns The Screw. There’s always a serene escapism to Tadzio’s music, even as they explore heavier themes and the darker sides of emotional depth. Their music is oft deceptively subtle, but built around progressions that slowly unfold and “Heat Turns The Screw” is no different.
Lead singer Shaina Kapeluck writes about the power of the sun and it’s penchant for both good and bad, nourishment and destruction. Her words sit above an atmosphere formed by the dulceola, a rare zither instrument played by Benjamin Schurr. Together with Ben Usie (Pree, Br'er) on drums and Tom Asselin (Bat For Lashes) on guitar alongside the classic lineup of Kapeluck (vocals), Schurr, Ross Lipton (keys), and Hannah Burris (viola), the band ease their way into a full groove, one that’s reflective of the song’s introduction while opening the track into new territory.
