One month ago today we had the pleasure of sharing a Thank song from the recently released charity compilation, Human Worth Vol. 1. Released for a good cause with many a highlight from the UK’s up-and-coming noise rock and experimental bands, the record was my formal introduction to Modern Technology, the band responsible for the Human Worth record label and putting together the charitable comp. Having released their debut EP at the start of 2019, the duo are ready to share their full length debut, Service Provider, on August 25th (LP/digital) via their recently formed label and on cassette via Cruel Nature Records (pre-orders going up on July 3rd). The band are sticking with their charitable deeds, donating 20% of all proceeds to The Trussell Trust, plus the extra 10% that Bandcamp usually takes on the upcoming fee waiver days (June 5th and July 3rd).

“Semi-Detached,” the record’s lead single is a sordid dose of noise rock, built as all good noise rock is, on a sludgy bass line and a massive avalanche of low end. The bass and drum duo dig into the wall of sound with a dense resolve, pushing against the immovable force with crackling distortion and caterwauling feedback. The song is dynamic but heavy and focused, reminiscent of AmRep and early Helmet, but with a knack for the modern that makes it pretty clear this isn’t a retread of anything from the 90s. The fuzz permeates everything in a dark coat, balanced only be the harshly barked vocals and the steady pummel of the drums, each pounding hit cutting through with a John Stanier like intensity. The vocals take a sarcastic approach to address inequality and greed, as the rich get richer, the hook sardonically repeats, “they need more money”.
