San Antonio’s Pinko have been immersed in the Lone Star State’s noise rock scene since their 2015 formation, releasing splits with Exhalants, Bummer, and New Primals along the way. After a string of increasingly tight recordings, the trio are finally set to release their full length debut, You and You on December 13th via Hex Records (USA Nails, The Great Sabatini, Grizzlor). The band’s acerbic and brash sound spits and screeches like a derailed rollercoaster barreling down the track towards inevitable destruction. Having shared lead single “Spit On The House,” we’ve got the premiere of “Rats In Reverie,” another sordid taste of razor sharp post-hardcore catharsis.
With a smoothness similar to eating rocks like cereal, Pinko stampede in with an invasive sprawl, quickly gumming up the works with atonal guitar melodies and a polyrhythmic pulse. Guillermo Mendez (guitar/vocals) howls and barks over the deranged flood of noise and primal drum fills, yelling like a snake-oil preacher from within the belly of the beast. The band make tight use of dynamics by pulling back at their attack from time to time, leaving just the dense rhythms to accent the steady churn and dismal outlook. The swarm always returns though, piercing through steel with rust and corrosion until the unhinged finale when everything has come loose.
