Rochester’s Full Body have never heard of the sophomore slump as evident on their second album, Always There. The twisting and turning post-hardcore band have sharpened the edges of their attack, the vicious parts are more vicious and their emo pop influences as sticky sweet as they come. It’s the contusion of the two that the band have been welding together since the release of their debut, What’s Good?. They’ve come out the other side with big gnarly pop songs, the kind that share a resolve similar to a rampant bull in a rodeo. Hold on for dear life and try to enjoy the ride. Due out October 18th via Albany’s Five Kill Records (Bruiser & Bicycle, Dead Tooth, etc), the album is both contemplative and boisterous.

From the rough and explosive post-hardcore grit of lead single “Looked At The Picture” to the retro-futuristic robotic charm of “Bad Screen,” the quartet are covering a lot of ground, keeping a certain tonal vibe in place while traversing the many sounds of their splintered genres. There’s resigned slacker anthems that nod toward the angular (“Sonic Bloom”) and the slow burn crawl of the warped and fuzzy “Hard Drive,” the album’s highlight that sounds like pastoral AM gold before eventually blasting into a harsh (and most welcome) solo. Full Body explore the sounds of post-hardcore from its gentle emotional side to its unpredictable and distorted ends.
