"The Post-Trash 50" | Our Favorite Albums of 2016 (A Mid Year Report)

We present to you "The Post-Trash 50," a collection of some of our favorite records released thus far in 2016 (plus one for good luck). We couldn't include every album we love, but we hope you'll find some new music to discover within our selections.

A Tribute to Ex-Breathers | A Post-Trash Farewell

A Tribute to Ex-Breathers | A Post-Trash Farewell

We all miss Ex-Breathers. In four short years the Tallahassee trio managed to capture the best of punk, hardcore, post-hardcore, and noise rock, condensing into one brutal ball of aggression. The band's music was angry yet concerned, harsh but cathartic, and free of limits and any genre restrictions. On top of all that, David Settle, Jack Vermillion, and Adam Berkowitz are three of the sweetest and most upstanding people you can ever hope to meet. It's all part of the magic that make Ex-Breathers such an important band. We gathered some thoughts from friends, peers, and those who have worked together with them over the years, but let this be a "living" tribute.

Mark Cone - "Come On Aileen" | Post-Trash Exclusive Premiere

Mark Cone - "Come On Aileen" | Post-Trash Exclusive Premiere

Better known by his actual name, Jackie McDermott, he's a member of both Urochromes and The Sediment Club, two of the more exciting bands currently reigning down the weirdness across the East Coast. Having developed an alter-ego however, it only seems right that McDermott will release his first solo release under the Mark Cone moniker, a 7" aptly titled Mark Cone Sings.

Sleepies - "Genetic Cousins" | Post-Trash Exclusive Premiere

Sleepies - "Genetic Cousins" | Post-Trash Exclusive Premiere

Sometimes life takes unexpected turns. Things can't stay the same forever, but after one listen to Sleepies' new record it's abundantly clear, we sure as hell missed Sleepies these past few years and their return couldn't be more welcome, The band's so called "nice-kid freak-punk" (their words, not ours) is tightly wound and bugged out. It's harsh and boisterous yet fun and inviting.

Useless Eaters - "Relaxing Death" | Album Review

Useless Eaters - "Relaxing Death" | Album Review

Lately Sutton has grown increasingly ambitious musically, slowly mutating from a fairly straight-forward power chord-plucking garage punk band into something that's more difficult to categorize. That doesn't mean he has slowed down, though. Relaxing Death is Useless Eaters' second release this year, coming only a few months after the excellent 10” EP Temporary Mutilation.

Operator Music Band - "Matérielmusik" | Album Review

Operator Music Band - "Matérielmusik" | Album Review

The relationship between the technological and the natural, the mechanical and the spiritual, is just one of many impressions emitted from the sophomore effort of Brooklyn’s Operator Music Band. Matérielmusik, while only spanning three tracks in eight minutes, contains the pulp and pit of a whole universe insides its blips and grooves.

All People - "All People" | Album Review

All People - "All People" | Album Review

Taken together, All People and Community Records are purposeful projects enacted in furtherance of building a cultural exchange where people can create, produce, and share music. All People’s third full length All People listens like the spiritual cornerstone of this vision, reminding people to step outside of themselves for periodic renewal.

The Adventures of The Silver Spaceman & Nic Lawless - "Isolation" | Post-Trash Exclusive Premiere

The Adventures of The Silver Spaceman & Nic Lawless - "Isolation" | Post-Trash Exclusive Premiere

Collaboration in isolation. The idea doesn't necessarily make sense at first but their shared sense of isolation brought Brooklyn's The Adventures of The Silver Spaceman (TAOTSS) and Pittsburgh's Nic Lawless together for a unique split single.
